Overview

The construction of Korean Veterans Boulevard (KVB) takes place in what was once known as Franklin Street and Shirley Street, between 4th Avenue South and 8th Avenue South. The new KVB will pass right by the southern limit of the Music City Convention Center and also the Omni Hotel. Both buildings are presently under construction.

KVB street work elements include new pavement and lane striping, new curb and gutter, and the construction of a 2 lane, large diameter roundabout at the intersection of 8th Avenue South, Lafayette Street and KVB. New traffic signals will be installed at 4th Avenue South, 5th Avenue South, 6th Avenue South and Lafayette Street at 7th Avenue South along with street lighting. New landscape and hardscape items will include bio-retention planters, pedestrian friendly walkway pavers, handicap sidewalk ramps, pedestrian seating areas, bicycle racks, parking meters, median planters, various plant materials and irrigation to name a few.  The construction of KVB also requires the relocation of underground utilities including, but not limited to AT&T, NES and Metro Water services.

A basic order of construction work for the KVB project could include: placement of temporary traffic control signs, survey layout of the project, building demolition, excavation and backfill, utility construction, grading and drainage, street lighting and traffic signals, sidewalk, curb and gutter and landscaping. Some temporary lane and street closures are typically expected.

The construction project is slated for completion by March 1, 2013.
